INGLÊS: Em Quinta-feira, 13 de Agosto de 2015 9:00, Elton John AIDS Foundation escreveu: Hello Supporter,
On Tuesday, Amnesty International voted to support the health and human rights of sex workers by endorsing a policy that would decriminalize consensual sex work. We at the Elton John AIDS Foundation applaud this step forward, which comes on the heels of our letter to the editor in The Guardian supporting recognition and respect for sex workers’ ability to articulate their own experiences and define the most appropriate solutions to ensure their own welfare and safety.
Research shows that enacting protective measures for sex workers and their customers leads to increased use of sexual health services, including condoms, HIV testing and treatment, and yields fewer reports of harassment by police. Conversely, countries that continue to prosecute sex workers have higher rates of HIV, discrimination, violence against women who are sex workers, and disparities in access to health services.
Thanks to your donations, EJAF has been a key supporter of organizations fighting for sex workers’ rights because we know that sex workers are on the front lines of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Decriminalizing sex work is essential to improving the health, safety and human rights of not only individuals who exchange sex for money but the population overall.
Learn more about EJAF’s support for sex worker rights here and then please show your support for our work by making a generous contribution to the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Join us in our efforts to end AIDS in our lifetime! newyork.ejaf.org/donate Sincerely, Scott Campbell Executive Director Elton John AIDS Foundation
